Whose Streets? Our Students’ Streets!

On November 14, 2017, Upper Elementary 1 students organized and held a Black Lives Matter demonstration to protest police shootings of Black men in St. Louis and throughout our country. Learning from and wanting to support the public demonstrations following the Stockley Verdict in our city, students studied peaceful protest, requested permission to march from their public representatives, made protest signs, learned protest chants, and, on the day, marched through the Botanical Heights neighborhood accompanied by teachers, administrators, and parents. We are so proud of the empathy, civic care, and courage our students showed!
