Dear City Garden Community,

There are two core beliefs that really drive City Garden’s mission and what we are trying to do:

First, Maria Montessori believed that all humans are born with inherent brilliance and that the work of education is to deeply support every child in unleashing their full potential.

Second, we believe our society has been robbed of what is possible because of segregation, racism and inequity. City Garden seeks to implement the vision of the Beloved Community that Dr. Martin Luther King talked about, where our children learn, live and are in community together. We believe that something different and better are possible.

In our mission we talk about “redefining education” and “reimagining community”— we are striving to create something truly different here, that honors every single child while building a better society.

Thank you for being partners in this mission, and for believing that something different and better are possible!

With gratitude,

Christie

August 21st marked the first day of the 2023-24 school year here at City Garden Montessori – making this the 16th year of City Garden Montessori’s K-8 public charter school and the 29th year of City Garden Montessori’s preschool program. It’s hard to believe we began in the mid 1990’s serving just a few students in a tavern on South Newstead.

Today, we proudly serve over 580 students across both our school buildings. Please join me in wishing our students, staff, and families a joyful school year.

It has become an annual tradition for each of our schools to host a Back to School BBQ in Tower Grove Park.

We are so grateful for the volunteers, staff, and caregivers that helped to bring these events to life with delicious food and joyful activities.

This month marked another US Bank Volunteer Day! Through our continued partnership with US Bank, employees spent their work day leading campus beautification efforts at both the Early Childhood Education Center and the Elementary and Adolescent Education Center. We are so grateful to US Bank and these phenomenal volunteers for lending their support.

If you are interested in volunteering at City Garden, or partnering on a Volunteer Day, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Layla Dominguez at layla.dominguez@citygardenschool.org

Last Saturday we kicked off our fundraising season with the first annual Fall Affair: A Passport Through the Garden.

In true City Garden fashion, the Fall Affair mixed learning and fun with an expedition through our grade levels and programs (featuring the wisdom and expertise of our staff and Student Ambassadors) along with hors d'oeuvre, cocktails, and a festive raffle.

Thank you to those who joined us, and stay tuned for more opportunities to support City Garden’s annual fund.

Each October we kick off our admissions season for the upcoming school year! So mark your calendars – Monday, October 2nd the applications for the 2024-25 school year go live.

Are you interested in applying for our preschool program or for our K-8 program? Visit us online at citygardenschool.org/apply to submit an application, or contact Ms. Tyeshia Smith, Director of Admissions at admissions@citygardenschool.org or (314) 664-7646 to learn more.

Thank you for being part of the City Garden community, and for all you do to support our mission. We wish you well!
